“HOLE/WHOLE”
Sat. 9th April 2016 – Sun. 29th May 2016
Artists: Shotaro HOKARI, Kiichi KAWAMURA
Reception party :Fri. 29 April 2016 13:00-18:00

CASHI is pleased to present a joint exhibition called ‘HOLE/WHOLE,’ by Shotaro Hokari and Kiichi Kawamura, from the 9th of April (Saturday) to the 29th of May (Sunday) 2016.

Shotaro Hokari creates sculptures with themes of ‘boundaries with others’ and ‘a diluted sense of reality’ which he himself seems to feel in ordinary life. He explains that for him it is necessary to be an artist who “binds images, which are like daydreams, into almost like tangible things through the materials he uses.” These images which have been given a body from these said materials then, via being placed on a pedestal as a base, create a mutual influence with the space around them. For this exhibition, on a base of (object like structures) work from recent years, the space will be configured in accordance with several new works with a focus on ‘the relationship of the scene.’

Kiichi Kawamura is a young artist who works through the expression of video and photography with a keyword of “if you can’t see something to leave it unseen.” For this exhibition old and new works of video and photography have been brought together. For Kawamura the expression of the moving image and photography are not tools for visualizing the invisible, it is beyond understanding, or it could be said that they are just one tool by which we can re-recognize ourselves and the existence of what can’t be seen.
In the present age it is thought that every fact can be measured, and everything can be visualized, but at the same time we always rely on the assurance of our senses and memories which are “things that can’t be seen,” yet they definitely have an existence.
Because Kawamura’s work captures the easy to forget aspects of the present time’s normal life, we the viewers can get closer to the existence of those “things that can’t be seen” and suddenly notice them.

For the midpoint of this exhibition a reception party will be held on the 29th of April (Golden Week). Please enjoy the work of these fine artists; we look forward to welcoming you to our gallery and introducing you to this new exhibition.
