Fri. 6 September – Sat. 28 September 2024
Artists: Risako KOKUBU, Taka SAITO
CASHI is pleased to announce the hosting of a two-artist exhibition, “sandbox,” featuring works by Risako KOKUBU and Taka SAITO, from Friday, September 6th to Saturday, September 28th, 2024.
The term “sandbox” literally means “sandpit,” but in the IT industry, it refers to an isolated development and testing environment where new functions or programs can be freely tested. In the gaming industry, a sandbox game is a genre that allows players to act freely within a provided world without a specific goal or storyline. This exhibition is titled “sandbox” with the intent of providing a space for the artists to present their study works or experiments without any pressure, akin to presenting a summer vacation project.
Risako KOKUBU, born in Tokyo in 1999, is an artist who captures and distorts nostalgic everyday scenes and images from video games she has been familiar with since childhood, rendering them in vivid colors. In her first solo exhibition “Visible Spectrum Composition” (Extra Small, Tokyo) held in 2024, she also ventured into video production. Taka SAITO, born in Yamagata in 2001, is known for his depictions of natural motifs such as plants, insects, and animals, characterized by canvases brimming with innocent richness. His first solo exhibition “Lost House” (AVA / Former Hello Bee, Tokyo) held in 2023 gained popularity, particularly on social media, due to his unique use of organic colors and expressions, leading to high expectations for his future work.
In this exhibition, KOKUBU will challenge herself with her first-ever drawings on supports made of sea glass and shells she collected during her research visit to Okinawa. SAITO, participating in his first group exhibition, will explore works on irregularly shaped supports he has prepared himself.
We cordially invite you to experience the freely expressed works of these two artists.
